We will be reviewing inferences this week. When a reader makes an inference, they are using their background knowledge, as well as clues from the text to make an inference, or guess about the text. Read for 20 minutes. Record the title of your books and the author’s name. Then write and tell me about an inference that you made. Use these sentence stems.
The text told me_____________________. I know ____________________. I can infer that ______________________________.
Example: I read Where the Wild Things Are, by Maurice Sendak. The text told me that Max was dressed up in a wolf suit. I know that playing dress up requires you to use your imagination. I can infer that Max likes to use his imagination.

I KNOW when kids and\or others twirl in a circle they are happy and\or joyed about something.
I CAN INFER THAT Skye is happy and\or joyed about her hotel room
I read page 42 to 68 of Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days by Jeff Kinney. The text tells me he payed for drinks with his friend's dad's account. I know when you use somebody's account to pay for drinks you would have to pay him back. I can infer that he has to pay him back.
ReplyDeleteI am still reading The Secret Garden, by Vanessa Marney. The text told me that it was hot. I know that it is hot in the summer. I can infer that it was hot because Mary said that she needs to wear a dress becasue it is hot.

I read Aphrodite The Diva by Joan Holub. The text told me that she started a club.I know its hard to start a club. I can infer she is having a hard time.

I read The Flood by Lisa Norby
ReplyDeleteThe text told me that they had a flood. I know that they were worried. I can infer that they were going to be fine.
I am reading Pegasus The Flame of Olympus by Kate O'Hearn. The text told me that Joel likes Pegasus. I know this because he draws pictures in his journal. I can infer that he loves Pegasus.

I read Punctuation takes a vacation by Robin Pulver and the picture told me that the teacher was trying to catch the punctuation. I know that when you try to catch stuff, its really frustrating. I can infer that the teacher must be very frustrated.

ReplyDeleteI read more of Book of World Records 2012 by Jenifer Corr Morse. The book tells me that Dave Mirra performs tricks like double back flips and front flips on his BMX bike. I know that those tricks are very dangerous. I can infer that while he was learning the tricks, that he probably had a few accidents.

The text told me the natives attacted the vikings. I know when there is war it is for a reason. I can infer the natives attacked because they wanted to protect their Land.
I read Talesof the Cryptids, Mysterious Creatures That, May or may not EXIST.As Investigated By Halls,Spears.& Young and I can infer that this book tell's you about exist animals (monster).

ReplyDeleteI read Saige. The text told me that there was a new girl that overheard Saige and Tessa talking about there not being an art class. The new girl started to cry. I know that when you cry you either are sad or happy. In this case I can infer that she was sad.
Brothers by Shirleyann Costigan. The text said when the older brother visits they have fun. I know that people like to have fun. I can infer that the little brother can't wait to see his brother for more fun.

I am still reading Dork Diaries by Rachel Renee Russell. The text told that Nikki wanted to participate in the avant-garde art show, but then she did not even try since she saw Mackenzie and she did not want to compete against her. I know that sometimes even if you really want to do something, you do not even try because you are scared. I can infer that Nikki was a chicken (as her grandma said, “You can be a chicken or a champion!”) because even though she wanted to do it, she was too scared to even try.

ReplyDeleteTHE TEXT TELLS ME Jane and Skye have to share a room and Skye now is very angry with Jane and her parents.
I KNOW when some people are mad at their parents and/or siblings they wanted something that they didn't get.
I CAN INFER THAT Jane will have to sleep on the couch or some what because all the rooms were full and Skye wouldn't let her sleep in her room.
I read A Bug's Life, by Jenny Miglis. The text told me that the grasshopper was mean. I know that the grasshopper was mean because he took the ants' food. I can infer that they were sad because the grasshopper took their food.
