This week in reading we are continuing to use Fix- Up strategies. We are learning about using context clues to help us figure out the meaning of unknown words. Read for 20 minutes. Record the Title of your book and the Author’s name. Write about a word that you used context clues to find the meaning for or tell about other reading strategies you used.
I read some of airplanes by Christopher Maynard. My clunk was I didn't now what airliner meant. My fix up stratigy was i read more of the book.

I read Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney. My strategy that I used was look at the picture.

I didn't know what revulsion meant. It told me that it means an unpleasant mixture of horrer and disgust.

ReplyDeleteI am still reading Ivy and Bean-Break the Fossil Record. In it I found the word shattering and I didn't know what it meant. When I started reading the context clues it made more sense to me. I know now that the word shattering means a voice that is really loud.
I am reading Pie in the Sky by Jane Smiley. My word was elegant. I read on and I got a further clue that said "most beautiful."

The word that I was stuck on was 'intrigued'.
The hint for the word was menu and I could guess that mark was interested in that memu for years.
Henry and Mudge and the Best Day of All by Cynthia Rylant. I had to re-read about the crackers from the sky. It was a pinata.

ReplyDeleteI read "Magic Tree House:Winter of the Ice Wizard" by Mary Pope Osborne.The word I didn't know was"braced". The context clues I used was the word"against". Now I know that"braced" means to get ready for a challenge.

When I read the word protested I didn't know what it meant so I read the sentence after it and it figured out that she was complaining.
