This week in reading we are continuing to use Fix- Up
strategies. We are learning about using context clues to help us figure out the
meaning of unknown words. Read for 20 minutes. Record the Title of your book
and the Author’s name. Write about a word that you used context clues to find
the meaning for or tell about other reading strategies you used.

The sentence that made me understand the word was, "I looked at my dad and gulped."
Sharks by Seymour Simon. I found out that prey is what a shark wants to eat.

I had a really difficult book. My fix-up strategy was looking through the sentence and rereading the paragraph.

I kept on reading because I didn't know what the word meant.
Tittle: Harry Potter And The Prisoner of AZkaban byJ.K. Rowling.I was stucked in this sentance:They watched him apprehensively, since I didn't understand the word apprehensivly.I was curious why those kids were watching that old man so I read after and before that sentance.I figured out that apprehensivly means with concern.

I didn't know the meaning of the word wondrous.So I compared the sentences after and before the word was used.

ReplyDeleteI started to read Ivy and-Bean Break The Fossil Record by Annie Barrows. The word I found that I didn't know was sphynx cat. I kept reading on and I found that it is a cat that has no fur.

It had a confusing word that I couldn't pronounce. It told me how to pronounce it like (PRO-nown-s).
I am reading Magic Puppy A Forest Charm by Sue Bentley. I looked at the other words in the sentence to help me understand what the word broad-shouldered meant.

When I was reading,I read the word serpent so I read on and it told me what it meant.
I read Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney. I didn't know what chewing up Rodrick meant so I found wake up and stand up. Chewing up Rodrick means waking him up.
