WELCOME BACK!
We will be reviewing inferences this week. When a reader makes an inference, they are using their background knowledge, as well as clues from the text to make an inference, or guess about the text.
Read for 20 minutes. Record the title of your books and the author’s name. Then write and tell me about an inference that you made. Use these sentence stems.
The text told me_____________________. I know ____________________. I can infer that ______________________________.
Example: I read Where the Wild Things Are, by Maurice Sendak. The text told me that Max was dressed up in a wolf suit. I know that playing dress up requires you to use your imagination. I can infer that Max likes to use his imagination.

Today I read Dork Diaries Tales From a NOT-SO- Popular Party Girl by Rachel Renee Russell.
ReplyDeleteTHE TEXT TELLS ME Chloe and Zoey are going to a closet and wanting to meet up with Nikki in a private room {the janitor's closet}.
I KNOW when friends want to meet up somewhere private, they are telling secrets to each other.
I CAN INFER Nikki will go to the {not so} private room because Chloe and Zoey are her best, best, best friends and Nikki will trust them at anything
I read some of Cluch's Education Is #1 by Robert Bowdwin and Jay Davis . The text told me Cluch likes to learn. I know learning makes you smart. I can infer that Cluch is getting smart.
ReplyDeleteI read the Lost Hero by Rick Riordan. The text told me that the red glowing eyes and metal teeth and shoots fire out of its mouth. I know that when it has glowing eyes and metal teeth and shoots fire out of its mouth it is a metal monster. I can infer that it could be a metal dragon.

I am reading Pegasus The Flame of Olympus by Kate O'Hearn. The text told me that when Pegasus landed on Emily's apartment roof and she found out he was up there she saw he had many wounds. I know that when you have many wounds that you have been injured. I can infer that Pegasus has been in a battle because he has many injuries.
ReplyDeleteI read page 1 to 16 of Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days by Jeff Kinney. The text tells me they are wearing sunblock. I know when you wear sunblock you may plan on going to swim. I can infer that they maybe going to swim.
ReplyDeleteAll About Seeds by Susan Kuchalla. The text told me seeds need air, water and sun to grow. The oak tree grew to be big. I can infer that the oak tree got air, water and sun.

ReplyDeleteI am reading Dork Diaries by Rachel Renee Russell. The text told me that a popular girl MacKenzie told a lot of girls that they are fat, worthless skanks. I know that calling people names is rude. I can infer that MacKenzie likes to be rude to other people.
I read A Team Stays Together by Lauren Dungy. The text me that Jordan was looking at a hat at a football game. I know that kids like to buy things at games. When Jordan got lost, I can infer that he was going to be looking at the hats.

I read dork dairy 5 tales from a not-so-smart miss know-it-all .By Rachel Renee Russell.I can infer that Nikki dos not like this mean girl named Mackenzie because she's mean and Nikki's over it.

ReplyDeleteI read Diary of a wimpy kid by jeff kinney. the text that Greg Heffly was running for student government. I know that doing that can be very hard work. I can infer that he is not working hard enough to get elected because he's only doing it to be popular.
